Sewing Machine Day takes place on June 13, 2017. The sewing machine is used to mechanically produce a seam. The first working sewing machine for shoemakers was built by the Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, who had his design patented. Although Saint’s patent was considered very advanced, he was never able to turn his design plans into reality. His plans were reproduced by William Newton Wilson for the London Science Museum in 1874. The machine was made entirely of wood. At least that’s what the Little Calendar<\/a> says about the sewing machine. <\/p>\n

The sewing machine is very important in Battambang. After all, it is an important tool for a future source of income. The Safe House is currently training the third cohort of apprentice tailors. This year, 18 girls are attending the one-year tailoring course at Safe House. Thanks to this training, many girls have already found a job. In addition, the Safe House has already financed three tailoring workshops, i.e. sewing machines, mirrors, fabric and sewing utensils have been provided so that the girls can open tailoring workshops in their home villages. <\/p>\n

The Safe House currently has 17 sewing machines for the apprentices and 5 sewing machines for small-scale production.<\/p>\n
