Nasaru Learning Center: Education and opportunity for Maasai girls<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Nasaru Learning Center offers Maasai girls the opportunity to attend school and train as tailors. This dual system is intended to give the girls the opportunity of a self-determined future. The girls should learn a trade and not be married off and become mothers in their teens. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Water is the basis of the Maasai’s livelihood. After a major drought in 2010\/11, the well project was launched at the suggestion of the village elder of Olpirikata. This has secured the livelihood of 1,400 people in the long term and they can continue to live in their tribal area and do not have to move to the slums. <\/p>\n

Children are seen as a resource for the community and are at the bottom of the social hierarchy. They are used to herd cattle or fetch water. The provision of educational facilities is therefore of enormous importance for the development of the community and for the recognition of children’s fundamental rights to carefree play and education. <\/p>\n

The project idea came from the women who wanted to rebel against female genital mutilation. The result is a multifunctional center, which today houses a women’s cooperative for the joint production of traditional Maasai jewelry and is a pregnancy and birth clinic recognized by the Kenyan government. <\/p>\n

Providing children with a safe place to stay and preparing them for school was also the declared aim of the Smart Nurseries.<\/p>\n\n

These were built in 6 Maasai communities in 2016 and give 800 children the chance of a better future.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After activities for the benefit of the community (wells), children (kindergartens and schools) and women (Massai Mamma<\/p>\n

Africa Center), there should now be a male-specific project. The project is based on the pursuit of a meaningful <\/p>\n

economic activity for the Maasai population in the savannah. The aim is to give the population a perspective for generating their own income and thus also for economic autonomy. Help for self-help! <\/p>\n
